Please take into account that if you just joined this forum that you are the new kid on the block, and people who have been here, voting for and asking for votes, prefer you show you will vote for them before they will RTF.

It's fine to respond in *just* your thread that you did RTF {Return The Favor} BUT - if you want more votes?

Just go to the threads from those who haven't posted in your thread and post in their thread(s) that YOU voted for THEM & leave your info for them to RTF in your post:

"I voted for your recipe/essay/pic. could you please RTF and vote for my recipe/essay/pic {insert your link or the link to your thread}"

SO - when someone posts they voted for you, instead of posting a response in your own thread, post it to their thread

That way, if they RTF and post to your thread when they RTF, and you do the same for them, then *both* threads get bumped and *both* OP's can easily keep track of who is voting - simple, right?  crazy tongue laughing

I personally find it easier for all if I post to each thread after I vote - that way the OP {Original Post(er) } can know with just a glance at their thread who is voting for them.

Our admin has determined the 2 week waiting period as fair to weed out those who come to SA only for votes, OR referrals, and who'd leave shortly after.

Whether you are sincere or not, there is no wiggle room, so please do not ask for special treatment.

Asking for votes is a privelege SA extends to it's members. It is NOT a right. This is not a government site, therefore free speech rights do NOT apply.

If you choose to post an ask and refuse to show consideration by posting that you are RTF'ing, then you will have your thread locked.

It's YOUR responsibilty to ensure you keep up with your ask. If you know in advance you will not have access to log in and RTF for 3+ days, post to your thread and it will not get locked.

The 2 week minimum membership requirement was enacted to prevent people from other sites coming to SA and getting votes when they have no intention of returning those votes. This was deemed unfair to SA regulars.

Like with all rules, those who seek to use others will find a way around the limits, so requiring people to RTF at LEAST as often as they are asking others to vote for them was added.

Some choose to only post to their own thread when they RTF, while others have read what I posted on how to lead them to YOUR thread so they can RTF.

I'm actually kind of surprised I have to explain this.

Waving   Easy how to:

1} Post your OWN thread, {1 thread per contest so DO post different threads for different contests} noting the end date and how often we can vote in your title, along with the name of the contest or at least the name of the sponsor.

^^^If you *have* to post a shortened link, at least post the contest title/sponsor, so people will know it's safe to click.

Before you ask for votes - is/was it listed at SA?
http://www.sweepstakesplus.com/smf/before-you-ask-for-votes-iswas-it-listed-at-sa-t79011.0.html

2} Go to the other threads in this forum {Referral and Vote Requests}, then vote for them & post you voted & any info you can: I voted,  3874, etc. You only need to post this once {for a 1x ask} or daily {for a daily ask}.

{With a lot of the voting contests, after you vote, it will tell you what the vote tally is, or say something like "vote recorded 04-14-2007, 2:53pm".  If you can, copy this line into your "I voted" post to verify that you really did vote.}

3} If you post a 1x ask, at *least* vote 1x for the other asks. If you post a daily, you will be expected to RTF for the other daily asks.

If everyone who posts an ask votes for their fellow SA vote askers, there will be no need to bump your own thread, since the others will bump when they vote!

So please post you RTF'ed to their threads, so they can keep track of who voted for them and to bump their threads up too, thanks!

If you have a 1x ask, you are allowed to bump your thread 1x a day, to see if there is anyone who hasn't voted for you yet.

See? Easy!  laughing

When you have an active ask and are posting you voted for someone, why not quote your OP {Original Post} from YOUR thread?

That way people won't have to try to find your thread - or which thread you mean if you have multiple asks - and then they'll post they RTF'ed to your thread and bump you up in return!

Win-Win!!!  headbang

HOW TO:

Just go to YOUR thread and click on QUOTE. Right click and click on SELECT ALL and then COPY.

Now go to and open the thread where you are voting and hit REPLY

Right click {with your cursor in the reply box} and click on PASTE. You can add any info {ie: I VOTED, I was vote #5, etc} above or below what you just C&P'ed.

Now your ask is posted, which provides the voting link.

And if they click on your name, it will take them to YOUR thread, where they can easily RTF!

  headbang

We had a few people who protested they didn't RTF to other threads than their own, because they couldn't figure out how to find those threads, so I posted how to find them.

Now, if everyone quotes their OP {Original Post} from the thread they started when they vote, those who have trouble need only to click on the top, where it shows {quote by} at the top of the quoted post and it will take them right to the thread - no searching required!

Too confusing? Try this:

For the post below {for klg614} just click at the very top, where it shows:

Quote from: klg614 on March 04, 2012, 06:49:00 PM

Hi there! I have entered Bed, Bath & Beyond's How We Met Contest and would really appreciate it if you would vote for my boyfriend and I. We're planning on getting married in early 2014 & wedding stationary is one of the prizes. I will return all votes. Thank you!

http://www.facebook.com/BedBathandBeyond?v=app_304780189574864&app_data=action%3Dcontest_view_entry%26id%3D1911151

And it will open to klg614's OP {Original Post} and then you just click the REPLY button, and post your OP that you have C&P'd {Copied and Pasted} as per the above instructions!  sunny

Wondering why some of us aren't voting for you?

TIP: Just posting an ask if you are new {but have been here at least 2 weeks} and especially if your only post is an ask for votes - won't get many responses/votes if you don't show you are willing to vote for them first.

So please post {after you vote for their ask} in the other threads {ie their threads} in this forum and you will get votes - you know, quid pro quo  sunny

If you are voting for others, please post - lately we've had quite a few who come to SA only for votes, OR referrals, and who'd leave shortly after, without returning votes, so us regulars are leery of voting for people we don't "know" - it's nothing personal  Smile

^^^If you post an ask, but don't RTF in other threads, your thread will modified after 3 days and will be locked after 4 days from your thread post date to protect the SA members who would wait in vain for an RTF.

If you post an ask, and it is your ONLY post/you only post in your own thread, and you don't post an RTF to any of the other vote asks on this forum?

I will modify your title to include: *Doesn't RTF* and I will lock your thread until you do RTF.

OR... see how the people who posted in YOUR thread posted they voted, then posted their ask underneath?

All they did was go to their OP {Original Post} from their ask thread, hit the QUOTE button, then right clicked and select all then clicked on COPY.

They then pasted that under their {I voted/I was vote #xxx} post.

If you are new to this forum, please read and heed the posts in this thread before you post an ask.

Most of this is common sense - you wouldn't expect people you don't know IRL to do something for you without you responding in kind, and this is no different - be prepared to give at least as much as you ask from others.

If you have been an SA member for longer than 2 weeks, but are visiting this forum for the first time, please read the DO's and DONT's and the "how to" tip to C&P your OP
 sunny

Most of you already know I don't enter "vote for me's" but that I DO vote.

Getting my vote is fairly easy - follow the rules, RTF to the open threads, and try to stick around even if you don't have an active ask.

Refuse to RTF to other threads?
Doing the bare minimum to keep from having your ask being locked?
Asking for votes on a contest not listed by SA?

Well, then I {and some others} will pass your ask on by.

Reminder - you may NEVER post for votes in COMMENTS or through pm, or in any other forum than Referral and Vote Requests

You MAY post your ask in the Referral and Vote Requests forum only after your 2 weeks are up in your own thread or AFTER you vote for others in their thread(s).

***I just had to ban a long time member for posting her ask in the COMMENTS.

I wish she had read this first, or if she did read it, that she realized we DO mean "Posting your ask anywhere but Referral and Vote Requests will get you a timeout"

^^^ALSO - do NOT post your ask in one of the stickied threads in this or any forum - PLEASE start your OWN thread, TY.

WARNING: If you post an ask, but don't continue to RTF in other threads, your thread will be modified after 3 days and will be locked after 4 days from your thread post date to protect the SA members who would wait in vain for an RTF.

^^^If you post an ask, but don't RTF in other threads, your thread will be locked after 4 days from your thread post date to protect the SA members who would wait in vain for an RTF.

Wondering why your vote thread was locked?

If you ask even 1 day prior to your 2 weeks, you WILL be banned and your thread will be locked.

If your ask is over, it was locked to prevent people from posting to it when they can't actually vote.

If it isn't over? I locked your thread so people don't waste their time posting they voted for you and asking you to return the vote when you either posted your ask and then left SA, or you don't return votes.

If your thread was locked and you wish to re-open it, please pm me, thanks.

So, if you post an ask, and don't post you RTF to any thread, and you haven't been back to SA, I'll lock your thread after 4 days - if this has happened to you? PM me to have it unlocked, thanks.

^^^If you then start a new thread without asking via pm for your old thread to be unlocked, your thread will have this posted to it:

You are expected to show that you {as the new member in this forum} will vote for others before we will vote for you.

For those of you who don't understand the concept of quid pro quo?  scratch

This thread {UPDATED 2/14: Have an ask??? DO's and DON'Ts of voting etiquetteshould help - if it doesn't? Or if you feel you don't have to post you RTF at SA, that we should just "trust" you do so?

Perhaps SA is not the place for you.

sunny The comments in this thread are NOT directed at those members who get it.

SA is, on the whole, a wonderful, giving, helpful community.  love

Most SA'ers understand that when they enter a contest that requires votes, that they are asking their felow sweepers to give of their time/energy, and that they need to give back at least as much as they ask.

The "HOW TO" post outlines how to post to increase the likelihood others will RTF to your thread, and the DO's and DONT's posts outline the forum rules.

Most of this is common sense {quid pro quo} and common courtesy.  sunny

Asking for votes is a privelege SA extends to it's members. With that in mind, please read and heed:

ATTENTION - if you post an ask {votes, referrals, facebook friends, or similar requests} prior to being a member for 2 weeks, you WILL be banned for the remainder, and your request will be modified.

That means 2 weeks if you just joined today. If you joined and waited 5 days to start a thread or post your ask in other vote threads? You will be banned for 9 days.

Please take that time to familiarize yourself with the simple rules we've pm'd you, thanks.

If you ignore these rules, your thread/post/comment will be modified and/or deleted and locked and you will be banned.

REMINDER - this forum is for asking for votes and referrals only - if you wish to thank people for voting for you, but your contest has ended and your thread was locked out, please post in the General Sweepstakes Talk forum, thank you!

DON'TS:

1} Do NOT ask before your 2 weeks membership at SA has elapsed.
2} Do NOT ask SA'ers to vote for you before checking to see if your contest is/was listed.
{*see below: Before you ask for votes - is/was it listed at SA? }
3} Do NOT post you RTF'd unless you really did vote.
4} Do NOT post your ask anywhere but in this forum: Referral and Vote Requests
5} Do NOT post your ask in Comments/via PM's/to any stickied threads.
6} Do NOT post a hyperlink unless it's the only way to provide a direct link to your vote page - you need to post the regular link too.
7} Do NOT post an ask and then not expect to have to RTF - you need to vote at LEAST as often as you are asking others to vote for you.
8]  Do NOT ask for special treatment. Admin has determined the 2 week waiting period. There is no wiggle room.

^^^If you post an ask, but you don't RTF, your thread will modified after 3 days and will be locked after 4 days from your thread post date to protect the SA members who would wait in vain for an RTF.

ALSO: NO asking for money/donations - SA is a sweepstakes site, and therefore NOT an appropriate venue for requesting donations. There are sites where it is appropriate, please try one of them.

Asking for votes is a privelege SA extends to it's members. With that in mind, please read and heed:

If you break these rules, your thread/post/comment will be modified and/or deleted and locked and you will be banned.

DO'S:

Ready to ask?

1} DO include the end date, how often we can vote, and a contest identifier in your title. See this thread for tips:
Voting Tips  http://www.sweepstakesplus.com/smf/voting-tips-t25218.0.html
2} DO include the SA listing in your post. If you can't find the SA listing, at least tell us the name of the contest. If the contest is still open:

Before you ask for votes - is/was it listed at SA?

3} DO post separate threads for each ask.
4} DO include your ask in your signature, which is the ONLY way you are allowed to ask outside of this {Referral and Vote Requests} forum.
5} DO be aware that if you post at SA, you will be expected to RTF at SA at least once every 3 days, or you risk having your thread locked.

Ready to RTF?

1} DO include your vote# {if available} when you post you voted.
2} DO C&P your ask when you post you voted. *see below: *Quote your OP {Original Post} from YOUR thread.
3} DO pay attention to those who RTF and those who don't. If someone has only 1 post, it's likely they aren't eligible to even ask.
If they are eligible? It's very likely they are "hit and run" type, posting here and never returning to ever RTF.
4} DO post you RTF'd to their thread, not just your own. I personally don't enter "vote for me" contests, but I DO vote daily. I {and some others} will only vote for you if you RTF to threads other than JUST your own.
5} PLEASE DO post you will be asking when your 2 weeks are up when you vote, but do NOT include your link. You may let us know what the contest is if it's not already listed.

*Quote your OP {Original Post} from YOUR thread.

Now your ask is posted, which provides the voting link and if they click on it, will take them to YOUR thread, where they can easily RTF!  headbang
That way people won't have to try to find your thread - or which thread you mean if you have multiple asks - and then they'll post they RTF'ed to your thread and bump you up in return!

Win-Win!!!  headbang

Our admin has determined the 2 week waiting period as fair to weed out those who come to SA only for votes, OR referrals, and who'd leave shortly after.

The 2 week minimum membership requirement was enacted to prevent people from other sites coming to SA and getting votes when they have no intention of returning those votes. This was deemed unfair to SA regulars.

  SA'ers, please take note:

TIP - if you see an ask from a brand new member who probably only has ONE post {their ask} they are most likely NOT eligible for posting an ask, and if they are eligible? They will probably NOT RTF!

If they haven't been here 2 weeks, their thread will be modified.

If they have been here 2 weeks?  Basically - wait for new askers to show they will vote before you vote for them.

New/any members who post they will RTF in their title/OP *usually* don't, so you may want to wait until they vote for the active asks instead of trusting them.

AND - be VERY careful clicking on shortened/hidden links!!!  nono

REMINDER - when you ask people to take the time to vote for you, be prepared to give at least as much as you ask from others.

Have an ask where you ask us to vote daily? Then you need to vote for the other asks daily - IN their THREADS.

Yours is a 1x ask? While it's preferable that all askers RTF daily,
you need to RTF at least every 3 days to prevent your thread from being locked out.
